This movie was sent to me as part of a challenge. My good friend Cindi from www.CindisNakedTruth.com has taken me to task time and again for not being on board with the whole alt-porn thing. She and I have had some spirited and fun debates on this material and she wanted to write another chapter in the great alt-wars. I don't know how much fun it will be because I don't expect a lot of sparks to fly. Why? Have I changed my tune on alt-porn being the most over-hyped sub-genre in porn history? Of course not. It's just that I don't look at Joanna Angel's work the same way. She just seems to approach her work with a different mindset. Her movies are different, but they are different because they are more fun than your average porn. She doesn't seem to have contempt for the majority of the porn audience. Instead, Joanna brings us humor, tattooed girls and a bit of attitude while never forgetting that people are supposed to be jerking off. She is what happens when you strip the pretentiousness out of alt-porn. So how will she add her unique spin to an X-Rated version of the indie hit “Party Monster”?

The bonus stuff here is pretty fun, even the DJ Tommy Pistol music video. (OK that is fun in a baseball bat to the nuts kind of way, but still.)

There is a lot of good in this movie. First, it's a pretty good tribute to the mainstream version. Joanna and Chapel have great on screen chemistry and make us laugh and all the right times. Some of the scenes are dark. This fits the plot and feel of the movie even when it takes away from some of the strokeability. The girls are interesting, definitely not Porn Valley types and will appeal to guys who dig the pale, inked alt-chicks. I find Joanna very attractive and love the fact that she carries much of the sexual action. Chapel is an interesting girl as well. Her energy seems to get better as the movie progresses. It could be a coincidence or there may actually have been an attempt to have her grow as a sexual being. Wouldn't that be novel? There is a very cool vibe to this movie. It's dark yet funny, packed with alt-chicks yet sexually energetic. They probably could have played the whole thing really straight, but it would have been way too depressing. Instead they keep it light and sexy, just like we love it. It helps a great deal if you love or at least aren't scared away by tattooed alt girls. I think they are pretty damn sexy and so is “Porny Monster.”
